Paul exhorts Titus to go after the Cretan sins because soundness in the faith must include a rebuke on societal sins and repentance. Alas, this is all but missing in churches that are strong on a narrow band of piety and externalisms. Why do they avoid worthwhile controversies, while tripping over less-important matters? There is a tie-in between national and personal sins, national apostasy and the apostasy that creeps up into the families in our churches.
