More Internet than Sandlots for Kids Today?

Helicopter parents are overly concerned about their kids getting paper routes, playing in sandlots, and doing odd jobs around town. But, they still allow their kids to free-range all over the internet, where red-light districts proliferate. How do parents avoid the ditch of fear and control, as well as the ditch of irresponsibility and the failure to protect their children?
